PORTFOLIO
Hi. I am Reese Dupin, a college student at SCAD and I am focusing on architecture, design, and film. These are some of the projects that I have completed recently.
Hopefully, you will enjoy checking them out.
Cultural Winery
Designer - 2024
Project Statement:
My architectural vision for a Tuscan winery draws inspiration patterns of the surrounding vineyards and the seamless integration of indoor and outdoor spaces. Located in the heart of Tuscany's rolling hills, the winery aims to celebrate the regions rich viticulture while embracing traditional cultural characteristics and blending contemporary design principles.

Inspired by the vineyards, fluid yet geometric lines of the vine rows will be mirrored in the architecture, creating a sense of harmony between the built environment and nature. The building will enhance the area's scenic beauty. This approach honors the visual elegance and underscores a commitment to integrating the old with the new.

Trustee's Garden Site Analysis and Model
Designer - 2024
Savannah, a city where history is found everywhere, flourishes in verdant squares, lies The Trustees Garden: an artist retreat designed for the renowned film director Damien Chazelle. This retreat is more than a structure; it's a homage to art, history, and nature. The retreat is designed to blend with the surrounding environment and maximizing the sensory experience of Savannah’s outdoors. I believe this artist retreat will become a landmark in Savannah.

Watermelon Man
Film Project - May, 2023
Prepare to be chilled to the core with "Watermelon Man," a short film I worked on within my film class I took spring of 2023. I worked alongside a talented ensemble cast from SCAD film class. The film was a group effort everyone worked together and with cast memebers. "Watermelon Man" is one of my favorite projects I ever worked on and lead me to pursue a minor in film.
Final Project Studio 1
Designer - 2023
Over the fall quarter of my sophomore year, I had the opportunity to design a home with three program options: a workplace, a living space, and a play space. I was able to design and create a model based on how I, as a designer, would desire the space to work. This project was one of the first projects I was able to create based on scale, program and drawings.

Revit Elevations, Floor Plans and Sections
Designer - 2023
I have recently been working on my architectural drawing skills through the use of Revit and other electronic design programs. Revit allows me to work in both 2D and 3D plans which allowed me to expand my knowledge on the process of developing a houses plans.

Pollock Chair
Designer - 2022
From a young age, my mother has taken me to antique shopping in order to see the beauty within the old, and I decided I wanted to portray that passion for antiquing through a project. I went treasure hunting and found a 1970’s STEELCASE chair that had been beaten up and left behind, so I took it home with me to give it a new face. I took the procedure very seriously first by sketching out on paper and deciding on a Mid-Century design and then converting that design to my IPad to see the colors set on the shell of the chair. After measuring and sketching I finally began to paint. After the painting process was completed I cleaned up the cushion and gave it a final shine.

Surfboard
Designer 2022
In my senior year of high school, I was lucky enough to be involved in the Gone Boarding class. Gone Boarding is a program where students are able to create skateboards, longboards, surfboards, and much more. I created and designed both a longboard and surfboard during the semester within the program. My surfboard is one of my favorite projects I have created. I started with a simple piece of EPS and shaped it into a functional board. I was able to gain multitudes of new skills that I have used in more recent projects.

Plaster Lamp
Designer 2021
Throughout my artistic journey, I have mainly painted, constructed, and drawn non-functional pieces. To challenge myself I decided to create a functional light fixture out of an unfamiliar material: plaster. I used a beach ball as my structure and mixed together some plaster strips and water and began to place the wet strips on the beach ball in order to get the form of the light. Once the plaster had dried and was nearly perfect in shape I placed the fixture within the light using an Edison-style light bulb to bring a warm brightness out of the fixture. After two months I created my first functional piece of art which is now hanging in my household.

Adorned
Painter 2021
Oppression or representation? Millions of women worldwide wear a head covering within their given societies, based on their religion, social status, and traditions. The three pieces display three different women from all around the globe, and each woman represents other traditions and religions but equal amounts of beauty. My main focus while painting these was showing the multitudes of beauty found around the world, no matter the difference between where other people reside. While working on the paintings, I focused on the true meanings behind the headpieces women wear. Wearing headpieces does not directly relate to religion, among other reasons including marriage, sexuality, family relations, status, and more.

Longboard
Designer 2022
Along with the surfboard I also built a longboard through the Gone Boarding program. I learned how to use power tools and their effectiveness on a project. I learned how to be crafty in a new way. I also gained an understanding of time management as I used my resin mix- how much time the chemical reaction would take to harden. Overall I learned something useful every day I worked on the board.

Macrame
Designer 2020
I created 3 pieces of macrame in order to develop a better understanding of creating hands-on artistic work. Macrame is an old practice of creating art out of rope and string, it takes very long in order to create the exact pieces you want depending on size, color, and shape. For my pieces I dyed my own colors by mixing colors together to get the exact colors I wanted, I then worked with little pieces in order to decide what shape I liked the best and then created larger works of macrame after finding the correct color and shape. Doing this by hand was very fun and never got boring, which is important to me as an artist. It was something new and interesting to me as an artist, and I have continued to create macrame because it brings me peace while creating.

Zippy Tints Clothing
Designer
This past year I came across a new way to create art: UV dye. The UV dye is a permanent dye that, when set in sunlight, is activated. I experimented with the dyes for multiple weeks playing with the time, colors, and washing of the dye until I felt comfortable enough to start creating clothing. I had so much creative freedom, for example, I could take any piece of my artwork, print it out on film paper, and create an illusion of that piece on the clothing. The UV dye allowed me to experiment and challenge my interests.

Mural
Painter
Over junior summer I helped repaint a well-known community mural with a group of other art students. We worked as a group to paint the design given to us on a very busy wall within the community, people walk, bike, and run past it every day, so we came up with a vibrant design that would catch people's eyes. The mural focuses on what makes East Grand Rapids different and itself. We focused on our mini downtown, the gaslights that line the streets, local statues, the library, and our beautiful lake. Filled with bright colors it catches the eye on rainy or sunny days. The painting of the mural being done by local high school students allows the mural to have even that much more importance. We also were thanked by our mayor and given the credit for the new addition to our community.

Cover-Up
Painter
A recent oil canvas I worked on was a piece I named, Cover-Up. I created this passionate piece in order to display that within everyday society women are told to cover up to conceal themselves and their bodies. I used oils to portray a young woman covering herself in sheets in order to conceal her “innocence.” In society, women are expected to be modest with their bodies in order to limit the amount of attention drawn to them and in order to be respected within society. My main focus within this project was to show the beauty as well as the chaos of being a woman within society, I used warm colors on the body of the woman to show the warmth, and then I used the cool colors blue and green in the background to show chaos.

Hobby Horse
Designer
The most recent project that I have completed has been a hobby horse made out of paper and glue. This project was for my Design 2 class and helped advance my skills. My main goal for this project was to improve my craftsmanship and time management skills. I was able to surprise myself throughout this project. I will take the new skills I learned in all future projects.

Hearts of Gold T-Shirt Design
Designer
Every year in my community there is a local fundraiser called “Hearts of Gold” and I was chosen to design the graphic for the T-shirt. After I learned about which charity this year’s proceeds would be donated to I began to design on ProCreate. I took my design and then transferred it to Photoshop and from there I placed the design onto a shirt on Photoshop to define the scale and placement I desired. This design was not only an honor to be chosen for but it also strengthened my communication skills. I was able to learn how to communicate my ideas to adults in a formal way and I was able to learn how to get over humps of controversy when a problem arose, whether with the design, the format or if the file caused problems.

Skull Collage
Designer
During the fall of 2021, I was enrolled in a SCAD dual enrollment course. This was a project for my DSGN 1 class. I was able to learn about the composition of forms and shapes in a given space. This collage project challenged not only my composition skills but my craftsmanship as well.

Clay Jewelry
Designer
During COVID when there was little travel to local art supply stores I used what clay I had leftover from past projects in order to create some pieces of jewelry. I created two necklaces with different variations of color and size of the beads. I worked with colors that were coherent with one another. Through all the stress I had during COVID I found that creating these necklaces relieved a lot of stress and allowed me to escape from the uncertain reality surrounding me. These necklaces are now worn by my mother and are very fitting for any outfit.

Floral Design
Designer
I expanded my knowledge of composition and design when my grandmother asked me to create flower vases for her retirement party. I had never created anything like this before so when she asked me I was more than up for the challenge. I bought some vases to work with along with all the flowers ranging in different sizes, colors, and shapes. I played with the design and placement of the flowers multiple times in order to find the correct fitting for the vase as well as the event. After experimenting with different flowers and vases I created the final designs and then worked on the placement of the arrangements before the party. I found this project really relaxing and something I began to love doing more for other people’s celebrations.

Israel Study
Painter
After traveling abroad to Israel with my church, I understood a very misunderstood area of the world. I painted four separate watercolor portraits on different sites I visited when visiting Israel. My paintings show the beauty not only found within Israelilie territories but also in Palestinian territories. The purpose of these paintings was to focus on the beauty found within both regions because, in America, we have a tendency to focus only on Israel rather than the beauty surrounding both territories. I used watercolor to show the subtle beauty found within the gardens surrounding the historical landmarks, the subtleness of ancient buildings, and a camel’s mildness. All the pictures are real places and photographs that I captured while traveling through Israel for ten days. It was an eye-opening experience I wanted to share through my paint strokes, show misunderstood areas, and show that they lack no beauty.
